Susan Martin - Biography


Susan Martin, CDMS, CRC, Senior Vocational Consultant, brings extensive experience in all aspects of the return-to-work process from early return-to-work with the employer-at-injury to determining vocational eligibility and development of return-to-work plans. Susan has a tremendous ability for making change in her clients' lives. Because of this skill, she is able to help the more challenging vocational cases. Susan brings high energy and enthusiasm to the vocational field and is experienced with the hidden job markets in the outlying geographical areas of Oregon and Washington.

GENERAL BACKGROUND:

Since 1983 have worked in the vocational rehabilitation field. Initial focus was training severely disabled individuals in work and independent living skills. In 1986 entered the workers' compensation field as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Presently "A" level certified in State of Oregon and a certified vocational counselor in the State of Washington.


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science, Psychology, Portland State University,1984.
  • Studies in Human Resource Management, Portland State University
  • Ongoing studies with Bureau of Labor and Industries in Employment Law
    and ongoing studies with OSHA
  • Received specialized training through OSHA in office and manual labor
    material handling ergonomics.

Senior Vocational Consultant: Vocational assistance to injured workers in accordance with Oregon and Washington Administrative Rules governing Workers' Compensation. This includes assessment of Eligibility; Vocational Evaluation; Medical Management; Evaluation of Transferable Skills; Administration and Evaluation of Interest, Aptitude and Values Testing; Labor Market Research and development of Authorized Training and Direct Employment Plans.

Provide all facets of Return-To-Work Assistance to include Early-Return-to-Work, Preferred Worker services, Ergonomic Analysis and Modifications.

1986 to 1994

Bostwick, Carter, & Petrick, Portland, Oregon

Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Provide vocational assistance to Oregon injured workers. Provide comprehensive return-to-work services to include early return-to-work assistance, worksite modification and ergonomic assessments, light-duty job analyses, eligibility and vocational evaluations, testing, labor market survey research and development of authorized training and direct employment plans.

1983 to 1985

United Cerebral Palsy Associations, Portland, Oregon

Work and Living Skills Trainer. Training and supervision of severely mentally and/or physically disabled individuals in a work activity center environment. Focus on vocational and social skills. Responsible for the development of prescriptive programming and individual goal setting; maintained employee records, monitored productivity quality and quantity; compiled data for client staffing; and supervised the daily activities of clients and staff. Designed and created ergonomic and worksite modification devices to assist with job tasks.
